September Justice Focus: Animal Justice
Throughout September, we are exploring animal justice and the ways our choices, communities, and faith traditions can help create a kinder world for animals and people.
Our September giving project is collecting clean, used blankets, towels, and boxes for Rainbow Connection Farm and other local animal shelters.

Giving Baskets
Our Giving Baskets offer three ways to support and care for our community.
You may give spare change to help keep the lights on. You may share your time and talents—can you bake cookies, change a lightbulb, or help in another way? You may also write down a private need. Private needs will be shared only with the Mosaic Lead Team and Pastor Kelley.
Give only as you are able; your presence is already a gift.

Our children are part of our community, so instead of having them sit and watch adults preach to them, they give their own sermons.
Children and young people are invited to bring something they would like to share—a toy, book, picture, story, creation, or anything else that is important to them. Together, we listen, ask questions, and discover what their sharing can teach the whole community.

This week we take a look at Charge Conference: what it is, why United Methodist churches have one, and how this annual gathering connects the work of our local community with the wider United Methodist Church.

People: We share this world with every living thing.
Leader: When forests are threatened and creatures are vulnerable—
People: Teach us not to look away.
Leader: We cannot save every forest or rescue every creature.
People: But we can care for what is in front of us.
Leader: May our faith be known not only by what we believe—
People: But by what we are willing to protect.
All: May we be guardians of the wild and good neighbors to all creation.

Sermon: Learning to Hope Again
Zechariah
Last week, Haggai asked what we are going to rebuild.
This week, Zechariah asks a different question:
What are we rebuilding it for?
We step into the strange visions and hopeful words of Zechariah to discover what restoration looks like after a community has lived through destruction, displacement, and change.
Zechariah imagines something surprisingly ordinary and radical: elders sitting safely in the streets, children playing, the land flourishing, truth being spoken, and peace being practiced.

After the sermon, everyone is invited into an open discussion. We share what we heard, what challenged us, and what connections we see between these ancient voices and the world we are living in today.
You may speak, ask a question, or simply listen.

Each encountered a threatened natural world and came to the same conviction: faith could not allow them simply to look away.
Together we ask:
Where is the wild, vulnerable creature in front of us right now—and what would it mean to actually see it?

You are invited to light a candle and, if you wish, name a joy, sorrow, concern, or gratitude. You may also light a candle in silence.

Mosaic Board Meeting
Our monthly Mosaic Board meeting is open to the community. This is a place to be part of the work of our community, share your voice, and help shape what comes next.
Tuesday — Community Workday & Open Office Hours
10:00 AM–2:00 PM
Come work alongside us as we continue caring for and building our shared space. Pastor Kelley is also available for open office hours.
Wednesday — Open Office Hours
2:00–7:00 PM
Band rehearsal and song requests are from 5:00–6:00 PM.
A pay-what-you-can vegan dinner is served from 6:00–7:00 PM, with activities for children and teens.
September Giving Project
We are collecting clean, used blankets, towels, and boxes for Rainbow Connection Farm and other local animal shelters.
These everyday supplies provide bedding, warmth, transportation, enrichment, and practical care for rescued animals.

2. 2027 Teams Sign-Up — Mosaic
We’re already organizing for On the Shoulders of Giants in 2027. Use this form to find your place on the Lead Team or one of Mosaic’s other teams. There are opportunities for different interests, abilities, schedules, and levels of commitment.
Please complete both forms. You don’t have to do everything—we’re asking everyone to choose something. Mosaic works because all of us bring something to the table.

Butterfly Families is a supportive gathering facilitated by Chrissy Keefe, LCSW. This gathering is not therapy.
Coming in October: Harm to Healing
Beginning online in October, this inclusive, queer-led gathering will help people recognize harm caused by churches and other groups, find the courage to leave, and begin healing in supportive community.
Sunday, October 4 — One Service at 1:00 PM
Join us for one combined Mosaic service with our unhoused friends helping lead worship, followed by a shared brunch.
Sunday, November 1 — Homecoming & All Hallows
We will gather for one combined service to remember those who came before us, welcome members, ring bells in remembrance, and sing beloved songs together.
A Note from Pastor Kelley
We’re already beginning to dream about and organize for 2027 at Mosaic!
Next year our theme will be On the Shoulders of Giants. Throughout the year, we’ll meet people from across history whose courage, faith, creativity, and commitment to justice helped change the world. We’ll explore what they did, what we can learn from them, and how we can carry their work forward in our own time.
But the most important part of planning next year isn’t just what happens on Sundays—it’s how we build Mosaic together.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll see JotForms where you can sign up for tasks, teams, and committees for 2027. Some opportunities will be ongoing, while others will be small, specific jobs you can take on without making a huge commitment.
Mosaic works best when everyone brings what they can to the table. You don’t have to do everything. You don’t even have to do something big. We’re simply asking everyone to find a place where their gifts, interests, and available time can become part of our shared work.
We stand on the shoulders of giants—and then we become shoulders for the people who come after us.
